Making matters worse, Mario Kart has been branded "blatantly fatphobic" because it can't accommodate riders with more than 40-inch waists which reportedly rules out the average American male. Its version of Super Nintendo World only has the Mario Kart ride so it is even smaller than its counterpart in Japan. It came at just the right time as the Global Attraction Attendance Report reveals that the park attracted an estimated 8.4 million visitors last year, 8.2% fewer than in 2019. Universal benefited from the build-up to the first Mario movie as it opened a Super Nintendo World at its park in Hollywood in February, two months before the premiere of the film. Chris Pratt, who voices Mario in the animated movie, recently told Entertainment Tonight that news about a sequel should be coming "soon" and that too should put even more of a spring in Mario's step. Movie which has become the highest-grossing film of the year with $1.3 billion of takings. Secondly, Mario's popularity is on a high thanks to the success of The Super Mario Bros. There are two reasons for this heavy investment.įirstly, NBCUniversal's theme park division is one of the media giant's biggest cash cows and generated a record $2.7 billion of adjusted earnings on $7.5 billion of revenue in 2022. In 2025 another Super Mario World is expected to open at Universal's new Epic Universe park in Orlando and it is also being developed for Universal Studios Singapore. The expansion is set to open next year and, according to the Global Attraction Attendance Report, it will increase the size of Super Nintendo World by 70%. That may change soon as Universal is in the process of adding the first ever Donkey Kong-themed area to Super Nintendo World. There's nowhere to sit and enjoy the surroundings."Īnother described it as "super tiny and so in the time we left to do other things they'd stopped letting people in without timed tickets so we couldn't get back in to get the merch we wanted." Similar complaints came from others including one who said "it's just always crowded and packed no matter what time I go." The walkways were tiny and mostly taken up by queues for the interactive games, restaurants, or meet and greets." He added that "the land is small, cramped and very hectic. One visitor wrote on Twitter that "the USJ land is very cramped even with 2 levels. However, the diminutive size of Mario's world could curb that as it has been beset with criticisms for being cramped. It should mean that USJ gets another boost in attendance this year and finally surpasses its pre-pandemic high. Japan finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel in March when it scrapped the need for people to wear masks and its final COVID-related border controls followed suit one month later. It's a different story abroad where both of Disney's parks in Paris and one of Universal's outposts in Orlando had higher attendance than in 2019. In the end, COVID proved to be too great a challenge, even for Mario.Ĭomparison of theme park attendance in Japan Caroline Reid using FlourishĪccording to the Global Attraction Attendance Report, none of the 20 most-visited parks in the Asia-Pacific region had higher attendance last year than in 2019 so USJ wasn't lagging behind local rivals. However, once the park attendance limits were dropped, there was no reason why USJ couldn't have beaten its 2017 record by relying on internal tourism alone. Even when those measures were dropped, travelers still had to submit proof of a COVID vaccination or negative test results. Until October last year, international tourists could only visit the country with a visa and needed to travel on a tour group with daily arrivals capped at 20,000 people. As a result of this, internal travel was down sharply on the level before the pandemic and there were far fewer incoming international tourists due to strict border control processes. Japan was one of the last major markets to exit the pandemic and safety measures were still widespread across the country last year. by PHILIP FONG/AFP via Getty Images) AFP via Getty ImagesĪlthough Mario gave USJ's attendance a bounce, it was still down on 2019 and its 2017 record. I used 3 teaspoons of mixed spice but upped the cinnamon and ground ginger slightly. Ina uses 3 teaspoons of mixed spice and Sally uses cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, and cloves to the total value of 3 teaspoons. Three teaspoons of spice seemed to be the common amount. There were a few minor tweaks to some of the other ingredients and I worked with what I thought was best. My recipe includes all metric measurements as well as cups, but with baking, you should be using weighted measurements as this is the only accurate way to bake. I also used 1 cup of dark brown sugar instead of all white which gives it flavour, colour, and moisture. The amount of sugar varied from 1 ½ cups to 2 and in the end, I opted for 1 ½ cups because I don’t like aggressively sweet cake. If for some reason you dislike raisins, you can leave them out. I also added raisins because I love them so much plus, I developed this recipe for my client Raisins of South Africa. I really love pineapple in a carrot cake, so this had to be in the mix. Most South African recipes included crushed pineapple, and the American recipes often had apple sauce. I had tested out Jenny Morris’s recipe which also had similar ratios, so I knew this was the right direction. Both their recipes were very similar and in line with the common formula, I referred to. Quite a few people voted for I na Paarman’s (from her cookbook ‘ Cook with Ina Paarman’), and Sally’s Baking Addiction. In the end, I eliminated all the recipes that had coconut in them as I dislike desiccated coconut with a passion unless used when used in my grandmother’s crunchie recipe(it’s the best version you will ever find trust me). A few were total outliers and sounded very interesting too. About 80% of the recipes were all very similar and had a common formula thread running through them. I looked at every single screenshot or link I was sent and immediately discovered a trend. I put a request out on Instagram a few weeks ago, looking for people’s best carrot cake recipes and got an overwhelming response. With this recipe, I did extensive research trying to uncover the best carrot cake recipe and I’m going to explain to you all about that. It turns out to be very similar in terms of the basic ratios but uses pineapple and banana instead of carrot and pineapple. I had always adapted my Hummingbird cake into a carrot cake. I have never posted a carrot cake here in all the years so it’s about time. Today is a special day because it’s my blog’s 14th birthday and I feel like marking the occasion with cake. The cream cheese frosting is perfect for me and there is enough to ice a 2 layer cake generously. It has a decent weight whilst still being fluffy with a moist and tender crumb. It’s a big claim to say something is the best carrot cake but at least this is MY best carrot cake recipe. Mix well.I have spent a lot of time researching and testing the best carrot cake recipe recently and I think I have settled on one. Next, combine your dry ingredients and wet ingredients a little at a time. Once you’ve mixed this sugar, oil, and eggs in a separate bowl sift your flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon. Using oil in this particular recipe gives the cake added moisture. You start by mixing your sugar, oil, and eggs together until the batter reaches a smooth consistency. The steps to making this cake couldn’t be any simpler. Be prepared because when your friends and family taste this cake they WILL ask you for the recipe. So today I am happy to share the steps to make the best tasting carrot cake you’ve ever had. With all that being said I knew I had to make Carrot Cake apart of my recipe collection. They sell their cakes by the slice so on Friday nights all we’d have to do is give each other the look…. When we were first married, I would find myself at our local grocery store bakery (more than I’d like to admit) searching for Carrot cake. So as the years have rolled by his love for Carrot Cake has seemingly become mine as well. I guess the guy likes to get his daily serving of fruits and vegetables in the most unconventional way. One of his absolute favorite desserts after Strawberry Cake…. When it comes to Carrot Cake I myself was never a big fan, oh no….did she just says that? I know who doesn’t like Carrot Cake? Well for many years I was opposed until I married my husband. This cake is super moist full of flavor and boasts a nutty bite with every taste. Walnuts and raisins along with carrots and pineapple give this Carrot Cake it’s rich flavor along with a fluffy yet moist texture. Today I am so happy to share with you my recipe for this Classic Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. Hands down, this is the best Carrot Cake Recipe! With regards to removing those options from the lightbox view, though, I apparently chose the wrong icons to use as an examples because I'm no closer to understanding how to remove the other ones. Golden rule, do not mix the two, this could become very confusing. This should answer both of the first two points. a style sheet that is loaded after the original. Any style rule changes should be made in an overriding style sheet, i.e. js? I'm using single in my example, and not even sure why. PS: While I'm here, is it better (in 2019) to use single or double quotes for things like class or ID names in. (I'm fairly confident I can take it from there, once I see this specific syntax.) I believe the customizing happens there, but I might need some help with the first two. Make that lightbox background layer less opaque (it appears to be 100% black on my screen).Streamline the options in the lightbox down to only 3 or 4, by eliminating social media sharing, or a couple of those zoom icons.(Or maybe that's just what I tell myself to avoid facing how dumb I actually feel when I try customizing this thing.) If you’re looking for your first lens beyond your kit lens, this is the one I would recommend, without a doubt. You can still use a wide angle lens but I prefer the 50 mm when possible. With all the photos you’ll see in the post, I’ve used my 50 mm prime lens ( HERE). But, don’t count on this to be a comprehensive camera tutorial – there are a ton of resources out there that will get you fixed right up □ In this post, you’ll see I don’t use a lot of technical terminology – I know the result I’m looking for and generally, what settings to move up or down to help get me there. I rely on using Lightroom for editing but I haven’t come across a program/app in the world that will magically fix everything if the original photo isn’t taken somewhat properly. I’ve literally Googled my way around my basic little Nikon D3200 since getting it three years ago - I’m always learning, adjusting, and trying to figure out ways to better do things. I use the same camera I’ve had since around when I started the blog and everything I know about photography is self taught. But, if you have similar, basic camera equipment to what I have, it’s not difficult to catch on once you start practicing. So, I can’t speak to whether there’s a way to achieve similar photo results in that way. The bad news – no, I don’t use an app and I don’t use an iPhone. From blurred bokeh backgrounds to super sharp tree images that look like the lights are sparkling, I’ve been asked about tips, settings, and if there’s an app I use. Over the past couple of years, I’ve received a lot of questions about how I take pictures of Christmas tree lights.
